Welcome to the LEGENDS OF MÄLICE campaign setting! In this chapter you will find a short introduction to the setting, as well as to what makes this setting unique.
A variety of cultures and societies populate the world of Mälice, some made up of humans but others made up of fantastic races such as elves, dwarves, and tieflings. Adventurers and heroes can arise from these various peoples. Your choice of character race provides you with a basic set of advantages and special abilities. If you’re a fighter, are you a stubborn dwarf monster-slayer, a graceful elf blademaster, or a fierce dragonborn gladiator? If you’re a wizard, are you a brave human spell-for-hire or a devious tiefling conjurer? Your character race not only affects your ability scores and powers but also provides the first cues for building your character’s story.
Your character type, or class, is the primary definition of what your character can do in the extraordinary magical landscape of the LEGENDS OF MALICE campaign setting. A class is more than a profession; it is your character’s calling. Your class choice shapes every action you take as you adventure across a spell-tangled, monster-ridden, battle-torn fantasy world. Will you be a gutsy, youthful sword fighter? A pact-sworn warlock with questionable ties? A gods-worshiping cleric who knows too much? A flamboyant rogue with a dagger up your sleeve? A tattooed wizard with a crystal staff? The choice is yours.
This chapter introduces new character options such as new backgrounds, feats, and skills as well as new templates and other variant rules unique to the LEGENDS OF MALICE campaign setting. This chapter will expose you to more variant rules and alternative methods of gaming than anyone can hope to use in a single campaign.
There may be items and equipment unique to the LEGENDS OF MÄLICE and they will be described here. Some of these items include identification papers, travel papers, and other campaign specific items such as weapons, armor, and other mundane equipment.
This chapter details the geography, religion, and relative history of the known lands of Mälice and includes useful lore and legends from details of the Wyrmsworn Rebellion and the One-Hundred Year War to the Legend of the Dragoon.
Magic and technology play an important role in the lives of everyday folk. From the magically lit street lanterns to the unseen servants cleaning the dishes magic is used almost daily by all. Recent technological advancements have procured a use for gunpowder in explosives and ranged weapons and will be discussed further in this chapter.
Many factions and organizations such as the Praetorian Empire and the Wyrmsworn Dominion are detailed in this chapter. Each faction or organization has there own ideals, values, and motivations and each are relatively unique to each other. Every adventurer should be able to easily identify with one of the factions or organizations detailed in this chapter.
New magic items and artifacts unique to the LEGENDS OF MÄLICE setting are described in this chapter. Delve into the new wonders Mälice has to offer, but be warned! Some of these baubles and items of power are not for the faint of heart!
